The Nevada Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association Opposes the FDA Decision to Ban Menthol Cigarettes

Menthol ban would hurt our small businesses and push consumers towards the illicit market

Reno, NV (April 28, 2022) – The Nevada Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association, which represents local job creators across Nevada, strongly opposes the unprecedented decision by President Biden and the FDA to ban menthol cigarettes. Critics have since raised concerns that the FDA has failed to investigate the full impact that a menthol ban would have on local industry and consumers.

The group said: While we support efforts to promote public health, it is clear that the Biden Administration does not have the current capacity to invest the proper resources in such a monumental decision. A comprehensive ban on menthol cigarettes would have severe consequences for small retailers and convenience stores struggling to survive amidst record inflation and a global pandemic. Rather than promote public health for menthol users, this decision would instead encourage
many to turn towards the illicit market, which our community already struggles to suppress.
